A
caravan crossing plains between Jebel Kissu and Jebel Uweinat - Legendary
40 Days Route leads across Saharan sands from Sudan to Egypt. It is one
of very few caravan routes still in use. A similar route leads to Libyan
oasis of Al Kufra. It takes a month of walking in scorching sun to get
to Kufra from Mellit in Northern Darfur of Sudan. It is over one thousand
kilometres and some of camels do not make it. Along camel's footprints
carcasses show the way. Jebel Kissu which marks direction and Southern
Jebel Uweinat where water is available are milestones of the trek where
caravans stop and rest. Then the last 10 days stretch of the walk begins.
